How to talk with your kids about cancer?

When you hear about a family member being diagnosed with cancer you may feel worried or concerned. You may be in shock and disbelief. For many people, especially parents, one of the things they worry most about after being diagnosed with cancer is how to break that news to their children, grand-children, or nephews. Most feel overwhelmed and unsure about what to tell them about the disease, or how. First and foremost, it is important to understand that there is no universal solution for every situation, or the one right way to manage communication about cancer. In fact, every family must find or create its own personal communication, based on their relationships with the children as well as on the children’s age.
